چکیده

Introduction The possibility of application of electric probes for diagnostics of thermal plasma jets is limited, especially due to the interaction of the probe with plasma. Nevertheless, some important information can be obtained. Electric probes were used for measurement of plasma potential in arc plasma [Chapman and Jones, 1978; Hrabovský and Konrad, 1991; Popov and Gateval, 2001], and for determination of structure of plasma jet boundary [Hrabovský and Kopecký, 2005]. In this paper we will use the probes for diagnostics of expanding thermal plasma jet at low pressures at larger distances from the plasma torch exit, where plasma radiation is very week and application of optical methods of diagnostics commonly used in thermal plasma investigations is not possible. Although this region of plasma jet is very important for plasma processing, especially for vacuum and low pressure plasma spraying, the possibilities of its diagnostics are limited. The goal of presented measurements is determination of possibilities of application of electric probes for diagnostics of expanding and decaying plasma jets.

Electric Probe Measurements in the Fringes of Thermal Plasma Jet at Low Pressure

Abstract. The article describes results of experimental study of a plasma jet with the use of electric probes. The volt-ampere probe characteristics were determined from measurements with slowly varying biasing potential in the probe circuit. Plasma floating potential and plasma resistance in different positions in the vicinity of plasma jet were determined for various pressures of ambient atmo...

Operational Parameters of Thermal Water Vapor Plasma Torch and Diagnostics of Generated Plasma Jet

The operational characteristics of the experimental direct current plasma torch with water vapor stabilization of the arc discharge and diagnostics of generated plasma jet at the nozzle exhaust of the torch were studied in this research. The operation parameters of the torch are presented in terms of generalized thermal and electrical characteristics, which were compared with equations for stea...

Probe measurements of electron-energy distributions in plasmas: what can we measure and how can we achieve reliable results?

An electric-probe method for the diagnostics of electron-distribution functions (EDFs) in plasmas is reviewed with emphasis on receiving reliable results while taking into account appropriate probe construction, various measurement errors and the limitations of theories. The starting point is a discussion of the Druyvesteyn method for measurements in weakly ionized, low-pressure and isotropic p...

Thermal Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Films

A thermal plasma process for the synthesis of nanoparticles and their immediate assembly into nanostructured films is discussed. In this process, known as hypersonic plasma particle deposition, a thermal plasma with injected precursors is expanded through a nozzle to nucleate nanoparticles, which are then inertially deposited onto a cooled substrate in vacuum. A lightly consolidated nanostructu...
